Row A: One-Hundred Year, Commandos, and Taperite. Some with Special Nib. All pens in this row are lever-fill pens. Screw cap on all except Taperites, which are slip caps.
One-Hundred Year pen in black Lucite, c. 1940. Standard size; second year of production with flattened ends and trim on the barrel rather than the cap. Pen is in very nice condition; no brassing that I see. Slight wear at best. Trim and pen body are very clean. Sharp imprints. Nib is Flexible and writes with a Fine line to Medium with a good deal of line variation and shading if desired…………………………..$325
One-Hundred Year pen in black celluloid, 1942. Standard Size. In 1942, trim is moved to cap. Waterman went back to celluloid pen bodies because of war-time restrictions for certain materials. Pen has seen light to moderate use. Cap band I suspect has been glued in place. (A common problem with these pens is that the cap shrinks a bit, leaving the cap band loose.) Trim and imprints are very good. Expressive, flexible nib: long, slender tines write with a Very Fine to Medium line with a good deal of line variation and shading, if desired……………….$275
Emblem pen in black celluloid, c. 1948. Oversized. A large pen with a lovely Fine Emblem nib with a bit of flex to it. The One-Hundred Year Pen became Emblem once Waterman could no longer offer its 100 Year guarantee. Condition is very good with clean trim and imprints………………………………….$375
One-Hundred Year pen in celluloid, c. 1942. Oversized. Condition is very good on this pen with clean imprints and trim, evidence of light use. Has Firm nib………………..$325
One-Hundred Year pen in burgundy celluloid, c. 1940. Standard size with ribbed barrel. Pen is a flat-out wet noodle! Expressive flexible nib with long, slender tines. Writes with a wet Medium to Broad line. A great deal of line variation and shading possible with this nib. It has moderate signs of use, but trim is clean overall. Barrel end jewel has been replaced. In this instance, it’s about the nib……………..$325
Taperite. The term refers to the semi-hooded nib on this pen, and it was made in response to Parker’s 51. It is an overlooked pen, one that does not register on the radar screen of most collectors, even to the extent that it has been maligned by some as being a mere copycat. Hardly! I love the pen and find it to be an excellent writer and good value for the money. I am replacing the slip cap on this pen with one that is more suitable. This Taperite has a nice Medium 14K nib. Note replaced end jewel and the barrel end is a little too tapered and slightly distorted. A good pen for use as an every day writer. Worth a try, especially for those writers who like to think for themselves……….…...$85
Taperite. In burgundy plastic. Medium to Broad semi-hooded 14K nib. Clean pen with a few shallow dings on the cap. Replacement end jewel……………………………….$125
Commando in burgundy plastic. Clean pen with good imprints. 14K nib writes with a Fine to Medium line. A very good pen for an every-day writer and for those wanting to try vintage pens……………..$125
Commando in black plastic. Clean pen with good imprints. 14K nib writes with a Medium semi-flexible line. Very nice……………………………………………..…………$150
Commando in black plastic. Here’s an example of never knowing what’s beneath the cap of a pen unless time is taken to look. Incredible 14K double-broad Italic nib writes with a wet flexible line. I’m not sure if it’s an original Waterman-ground nib or if the grind was executed by a very competent individual. I have my suspicions, since it was done about twenty years ago, but I cannot say for sure without removing the nib, which I feel is unnecessary. Clean pen with good imprints………………..…$375
Commando in black plastic. Clean pen with good imprints. 14K nib writes with a Medium to Broad, fairly firm line. Very nice…….………$150
Commando in blue plastic. Clean pen with good imprints. 14K nib writes with a Medium line. Soft, smooth nib with just a hint of flex. Looks to me like the cap bands have been replaced. They are silver color and probably not original. Cap threads are very tight…User-grade pen all the way……….……$95
