Parker Row N: More 45s, Lady 45

The 45 is a favorite pen of mine. It has classic design and it’s an incredibly durable and functional fountain pen. It’s also affordable, making it an excellent choice for people who are interested in learning more about vintage fountain pens. The pen was introduced in 1960 and it was manufactured for decades. It was Parker’s first cartridge/converter fountain pen, appearing on the market much later than Waterman’s C/F (cartridge-fill pen).
Watch for distortion to the nose cone, not an uncommon occurrence. It can occur even if the pen just sat for fifty years, if the barrel was pushed too tightly into the cap. A major cause of distortion is cause by heat, as when pens are left baking in the sun. A slight indentation/ripple in the nosecone is acceptable. However, watch for nosecones that are badly distorted. Not a good thing.
The nibs are easy to switch out and they are readily available. There are a staggering number of finishes and styles to investigate. Nibs were available in 14k gold, gold plate, and stainless steel. Frankly, I see little difference in the performance of gold nibs over steel nibs. Other people may feel differently. Since some people use ink cartridges and do not draw ink from a bottle, I’ll make pens available with or without converters. Parker 45s represents great value for the money.
