Parker VP: In the 1950s, pen companies got into using initials to name their pens. Sheaffer’s TM stood for Thin Model. PFM was short for Pen For Men, and for Parker, V.P. was short for Very Personal. The VP was introduced in 1962. It was a short-lived model and the first pen to have an adjustable nib and triangular shaped section, the same section and nib combo that would later be used with much greater success on Parker’s 75.
1 The VP is a high quality niche pen with a quirky glass vial filling unit with a fragile neck that is prone to break. (This one is not broken.) The pen is in great shape; the steel cap has its original finish. The key to not breaking the glass unit is to leave it in place. Nib is marked 65, Parker’s code for a Fine point……$195
2 Parker 65 English pen c. 1970. The pen resembles the 61 except for the nib and section. This one has a monster left oblique Broad, possibly Double Broad, stub nib. (Similar to an italic nib but slightly rounded edges and bottom.) The nib has a nice bit of flex to it as well, and it is in very nice condition. A few light scratches and scuffs to the gold-fill cap. Has a converter in it. ………………………………$265
3 Parker VP: like the other VP in this row but with a gold-fill cap. Very nice condition. Fine point..….$250
Parker 61: I have a number of Parker 61s listed in this row. They are wonderful pens, but they are problematic in the sense that their filling system is like a big magic marker (sort of…I think I got that image from Frank Dubiel ) and they cannot be cleaned easily. In my opinion, once one color ink is used, it’s best to stick with that color ink. Some 61s have converters instead, and that makes all the difference in the world. The 61 more becomes more functional, easier to fill, and to use with different color inks. Most of the 61s listed have converters, but I also included a few beauties with the original Teflon coated filling system. Don’t expect pens with Teflon coated fillers to fill properly. They may, but I am selling them “as is”. There are no filling system guarantees for these pens. You may clean the pen out yourself or send it to a pen repair person. I love the pen. I think it’s well worth the effort. At some point, I’ll include an article I wrote about the 61 on this website.
